We are all chasing a dream. Everyone dreams differently — some about fast cars, big houses, adventure, love, simplicity, fame, fortune — but they all equate to the same thing. The destination is always happiness. I chased a dream too. I wanted to travel, train with the best of the best, compete and win, live a life of Jiu Jitsu. I would stop at nothing to get there. Finally, in 2014, I arrived at my destination — Singapore. Training every day with my mentor, traveling, and competing, Jiu Jitsu was my job, and I was living the dream. As time passed, I began to feel disenchanted, unfulfilled. I wasn’t learning new things, I had nothing to look forward to. Jiu Jitsu, in my eyes, lost its sparkle and shine.
I realised that working so hard towards one destination no longer had meaning. And in my search for the next thing — I traveled the world, talked to people, asked questions, sought to understand — I observed (and remembered). The reason at its very core — why people train Jiu Jitsu — is to be in a constant state of learning, to connect with like-minded people, and to belong to something meaningful.
Inspired by this, I created a community and a platform where this essence that people crave is at the heart of everything we do. To design systems and methodologies to keep everyone fulfilled in learning and in their flow. A place where the magic we once knew of the old school philosophies is reinvented. Where the destination is not the 'arrival to a milestone' but rather a constant state of being — to enjoy the process.
